Edward Kenway/Reader two-shot - Siren's Call

An Assassin's Creed romance 2-shot, part 1/2

There is a song I used in this that is from a video game called Dishonored (which is a really fun game by the way). It is a well known sailor shanty called 'Drunken Sailor' (which is also in AC-BF) but it has a twist in words and is called 'Drunken Whaler' in Dishonored. You can read it or skim over the song if you wish… I'm not forcing you to do anything…. or am I? XD lol *puts a squirt gun to your head* YOU BETTER READ IT! XD jk

Link to the song on YT I'm using in case you want to hear it---> www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuPS9q…

One more thing and I'll stop talking, promise lol. I just want to dedicate this fan fiction to the lovely AroonCat. She gave me some brilliant ideas that I'm incorporating into this story! So she also gets credit for that! I'm just the monkey with the typewriter, folks! I hope you enjoy this because this is my first Assassin's Creed fan fiction. So I'm a bit nervous about it! Don't judge me too harshly! ... e_e

⚓ ⚔ --------------

You could remember was the wicked thrashing of waves of the ocean tossing over the sides of the frigate and fiercely blasting everyone it's wake. You remembered the giant storm that had rumbled with thunder and threw off electrical streaks of lightning that struck violently through the dark eerie skies above. The yells and hollers of rough voices that held exhaustion yelled back and forth to each other as they rushed around the frigate's main deck doing whatever they could to keep the ship from being overtaken by the sea and down to Davy Jones Locker. There was nothing you could do but watch in absolute horror as the waves like one of a tsunami crashed together out in the deep dark waters. You were drenched to the bone but you didn't care, you just wanted to make it out of this alive. The sailors ran in blurs back and forth, the rain pounded like sharp needles penetrating your delicate skin, the wind howled like that of a creature of the night.

You remembered when a wave struck the vessel and the captain screamed, "MAN OVER BOARD!" It was that when all hell broke loose. You ran to the side of the ship where the man was doing whatever he could to stay afloat above the dark waters. His hand was outreached to you and you saw a look of real genuine terror on his face, the kind that knew he was going to die. Another wave surged over him and then he was gone, just like that, nowhere to be seen. You screamed and asked someone to help the man, to find him before it was too late. No one responded, no one had time to answer to the only woman on the ship that everyone considered bad luck from the start. You held on to the mast of the frigate as the ship lurched back and forth like a giant wooden cradle. You prayed in your mind that this would be over with, that you would come out safe. There was already one casualty and no one did anything to help the poor soul who had most likely drowned under the unforgiving seas. You closed your eyes shut and hoped when you reopened them that everything would go back to normal but they didn't. It had only gotten worse.

The captain was screaming out orders to keep the frigate steady to his men. The overworked men obeyed and did what they could but another wave tided over and this time it almost took you with it. Instead, it took a whole bunch of other men with it and into the oceans. You grit your teeth and barely could hold onto the mast enough to not be also taken away to an inevitable death. The captain was cursing furiously as he watched his men being snatched away one by one. Opening your (e/c) eyes again, you shivered under the freezing icy cold water that drenched you to the bone. You watch the men but your wide eyes reverted to the largest wave you had ever seen coming from the right of the frigate. The captain tried with all his might to steer away from the wave but the wave was too close and fast as it ripped through the water. You see a man that was messing with some rope of the right side of the ship. You gasp and out of instinct you ran as fast as you could in a long dress and high heels over to the sailor who was about to be full on smashed by the ignoramus wave that was merely feet away.

"COME ON! YOU HAVE TO MOVE!" You remembered yelling to the large man who glanced at you and told you to bug off. You narrowed your eyes and lurched forwards and grabbed roughly onto his muscular arm. "Move or you're dead!" Those were the last words you spoke as you gasp when you see the tidal wave like a miniature tsunami stretch over the entire main deck. The other sailors took cover but you and the man you attempted to save weren't so fortunate. The wave swept over the side and wrecked havoc across the deck. You tried your very hardest to keep your grip on the man but your hand slipped and then you went tumbling through the seawater's wave that sped over the other side and took you overboard. "HELP!" You screamed but it came out choked from the water spilling into your mouth. You could do nothing but keep your eyes closed and let the wave take you with it.

You remembered passing out for a short time until you needed air because you found yourself underwater. Your eyes shot open in the salty water that burned your eyes and you panicked as you looked upwards and began paddling your way skyward to reach the surface. You gasped for air under the water, bubbles streamed from your mouth as you swam for your life. When you finally reached the top you gasp again for much needed oxygen. You were breathing heavily and and finding it very difficult to keep surfaced as the water was rocking you back and forth as the waves pushed you and the current was taking you wherever it willed. Your eyes widen in mortification as a strike of lightning hit the ship's main desk and produced a raging fire. It all happened so fast… the ship was burning, the waves weren't taking it out. The sailors were trying to take it out but it only rose higher and when it reached a barrel of gunpowder by the canons. The flames exploded and sent men flying over board seared from the fiery blaze. There wasn't enough men to keep the ship afloat. You could only watch as the ship started sinking and breaking into pieces.

Roars of distant cries, heart-wrenching screaming, black smoke, the smell of burnt flesh, and death. Your head kept bobbing under the water, your whole body was cramping up. You were going to die. Just accept it. No one was going to save you now. Tears ran down your already wet face and you did the only thing you could think of. You closed your eyes and let the current take you back underwater. This would be your final resting place.

However, Lady Luck was on your side, you didn't give in to the depths of the dark raging ocean. You weren't forever condemned to be imprisoned to Davy Jones Locker. You lived… barely.

You had passed out again from exhaustion but you found yourself not under the water like before, but now you were floating on the surface with your face skyward. You opened your eyes and stared up at the morning sky, it was clear and shining bright. Your muscles were aching, you had a terrible headache, and you felt almost too drained to move. You only moved your head to look around at your surroundings. The waves were back to normal, the ocean was back to it's crystal clear blue color, the clouds were white and puffy in the sky. If only, you didn't see the gruesome sight that was around you. The frigate was absolutely obliterated into nothing but debris. Fire was still seen blazing on some of the wooden remains and on top of the water where oil was intermixed with the ocean. The most tragic scene was the many corpses of dead sailors that were either charred or remained unscathed by the flames that were all floating in the water around you. You could even see the captain's hat floating by next to you. Everyone was dead…

Your body shook and you let out a painful loud sob, "NO! T-this can't be happening!" You croak out hoarsely. Tears streamed down your face and slide down the sides of your cheeks and into the water that kept you afloat. You shuttered and kept weeping over the loss of so many souls and at the fact you were stranded in the middle of nowhere in the Caribbean ocean. No matter how far you looked all you saw was the horizon and the waters below, you were alone, stuck. Finding any strength that was left in you, you noticed a large plank from the ship floating nearby next to a corpse. You pulled yourself into a swimming position and tried to ignore the aches and pains that racked through your entire body. You swam over to the plank and grabbed a hold of it while sending a sympathetic look over at the unlucky mate whose flesh was seared black from the explosion and fire on the ship. "Rest in peace…" You murmur and cling onto the plank that was able to support you so you didn't have to keep fighting to keep yourself afloat.

You remembered one last thing and that was your eyes fluttering close when exhaustion took over. You laid your head on the plank with your arms wrapped around it and fell asleep after a couple minutes of nothing but silence other than the faint crackling of the fire nearby and the rolling waves. Your sleep was dreamless or at least you couldn't remember dreaming. After many hours out at sea, it was already nearing noon, you could only tell by how the blaring sun looked out in the horizon. Sighing you were getting hungry and thirsty and no matter that you slept, you still felt very weak and tired. "I'm going to die out here." You whisper to yourself softly.

You keep your head resting on the wooden board and close your eyes to rest them. You were coming to terms this would be your long agonizing death, maybe from starvation, hypothermia, drowning, dehydration, maybe even eaten by a shark. You weren't sure what your demise would be but you prepared yourself for it. You laid there almost lifelessly and just listened to the hushed whispers of the ocean blue and waited for the unknown. You grew bored from floating endlessly for what felt like a lifetime so you began to sing aloud in a soft haunting voice to calm your sensibilities before you went entirely mad.

" What will we do with the drunken whaler~?

What will we do with the drunken whaler~?

What will we do with the drunken whaler~?

Early in the Morning…

Way hey and up she rises

Way hey and up she rises

Way hey and up she rises

Early in the morning

Stuff him in a sack and throw him over

Stuff him in a sack and throw him over

Stuff him in a sack and throw him over

Early in the morning

Feed him to the hungry rats for dinner

Feed him to the hungry rats for dinner

Feed him to the hungry rats for dinner

Early in the morning

Way hey and up she rises

Way hey and up she rises

Way hey and up she rises

Early in the morning

Shoot him through the heart with a loaded pistol

Shoot him through the heart with a loaded pistol

Shoot him through the heart with a loaded pistol

Early in the morning

Slice his throat with a rusty cleaver

Slice his throat with a rusty cleaver

Slice his throat with a rusty cleaver

Early in the morning

Way hey and up she rises

Way hey and up she rises

Way hey and up she rises

Early in the morning… "

You finished the ending of your haunting melody that was both beautiful and heart-wrenchingly painful. You felt warm tears pour down your face as you kept your swollen eyes closed while shivering from the cold of the frigid wind and icy cold West Indies oceans.

⚓ ⚔ --------------

A large frigate vessel in the distance was sailing through the calm waters. The Captain of the ship had noticed something off in the near distance that was just slightly obscure from his eyes vision. He took out his golden scope from his pocket to get a better view of what was out there. His blue eyes widen in shock as he took in the sight that was in front of them. The remains of a ship were scattered through the water and fire could be seen still ablaze on some of the wooden objects and even on the water in trails of oil that probably were from barrels that the fire had gotten too. Dead men littered the area some were burnt past recognition while others appeared to be unharmed by the flames but they still were dead somehow. "We're sailing in closer. There's a shipwreck over there."

"Going to do some looting?" His quarter master named Adéwalé asked the blonde Captain.

The Captain narrowed his eyes and frowned. "Let's take a look first." He replied in his strong South-Welsh accent while obviously in thought as he steered the helm of his ship to maneuver closer. Being extra careful not to hit any of the large disarrayed remains of the ship, corpses, or any patches of fire. Captain Kenway ordered out to his crew to lay off the sails and take anchor so he could get a better look at the destruction, to see if there was anything actually worth looting. Stepping away from the helm, he stepped off the poop deck and went down the steps to the the main deck where his crew was. He and some of his crew members began to start peering off the side of the ship and down at the disastrous area around them. This was certainly not the first time Captain Kenway had been around death or tragic shipwrecks, many he even caused himself. It seemed like a lot of the vessel had sunk to the ocean floor while the rest of it was floating on the surface. The fire couldn't have been the cause of the ship sinking, something else had to do it. Kenway's eyes scanned the area at all the lifeless corpses in dead silence. There didn't appear to be anything of value left of the ship, not even one man was left alive. "Everyone's dead and there doesn't appear to be anything here worth looting. Let's go." He said and was about to turn away from the side of the ship, that was until he heard an enchanting feminine voice singing as song like an eerie lullaby in the nearby distance.

The crew looked at him questionably but when they heard the gorgeous voice they too looked back out to see where the sad melody was coming from. 'Where is that coming from?' He thought to himself as he squinted his eyes and looked at each individual deceased body but all of them were men. Nothing could produce such a beautiful song in such disaster unless it was as mermaid but Captain Kenway didn't believe in such sailor folklore. Kenway kept looking until one of his men started pointing frantically at something and yelling for him to look over. Kenway glanced at him before looking in the direction he was pointing eagerly at. There hidden behind a single barrel that was floating by was a woman wearing a long flowing (color) dress who had (h/l) (h/c) hair that was soaked with seawater.  "So there is a woman." He mummers to himself and then quickly rushed over back onto the poop deck to get a better look at you from a different angle where the barrel was obstructing his view. There you were lying on a long plank that was holding you up. You must have been the one that was singing! Kenway froze on the spot as he couldn't help but listen to the rest of your grim song before you went completely silent. He took out his scope again and focused it on you, he knew for sure you were alive since you had been singing. Kenway wouldn't typically save people unless they joined his crew but he never came across a woman that was shipwrecked. You appeared to be the only survivor of this tragic incident.

Kenway stared at you through his scope before lowering it and frowning. He just had this gut feeling that he should save you. He couldn't actually have a woman as part of his crew. Having a woman on a ship was said to be bad luck even though Kenway still doubted that held any real truth. It had to be just another folklore that sexist drunkards prattled on about while drinking. Kenway took a deep breath and caved in to his lure to you, just like a siren's call.

"Alright, men! Lower a boat for me. I'm heading in closer!"

The men obeyed thinking that their Captain actually did find something worth stealing from the wreck like the pirates they were. Little did they know Kenway was acting upon a strong impulsive emotional response to go and save you. He couldn't leave a defenseless young woman to die out here in the middle of nowhere. Kenway typically didn't play by the rules and didn't care if things were fair or not, but this time it just felt the overwhelming unfairness of the situation and succumbed to it. He imagined he would probably regret this once his crew found out he was hauling a woman on board and not treasure or raw materials for his ship the Jackdaw. This was either going to be good or really bad. Kenway found that he didn't care as he boarded the small cock-boat that his crew lowered down into the water. Taking a paddle he began paddling over to where you were located on the plank. Once he reached right next to you, he spoke up. "You there! Are you awake?!" The Captain called out to you. You breathed out a groan and painfully turned your head to look at who was speaking to you in a clear South-Welsh accent. Were you dreaming? There was a bright light that shone behind a handsome man with blonde cornsilk colored hair put back in a short ponytail and had the brightest blue eyes that were looking you on with concern. Was he an angel here to come and take you away to Heaven's gates? He actually looked angelic with the light shining behind him. Your squinted eyes stared at him for a moment in silence. He took your silence as that something was wrong with you, "Are you alright, lass?" He asked in that accent that send shivers down your spine, though you weren't sure if those shivers were just from the cold of the waters and damp clothing you were wearing.

"I-I've been better…" You finally reply to him in a hoarse quiet voice. He frowns at this and glanced back at his ship where he saw his crew watching his every move, he could tell they were gossiping to each other about him and the woman in front of him.

"I'd hope so." He said and then reached out over the boat to lend a large calloused hand over towards you. Your eyes look from his face and down to his hand that was outreached towards you. "Come on then. I wouldn't think you'd want to stay here in this debris. I'll bring you abroad the Jackdaw. You'll be safe there." He told you reassuringly. You didn't know if you could trust the man but what other alternatives did you have? Wanting anything more than to get out of the frigid saltwater, you cautiously extend your smaller soft hand which he grabs onto. He tugs you away from the plank and gets you to hold onto the sides of his small boat. "Hold on." He instructed you as he gripped onto both of your arms and began heaving you up from the ocean and onto the boat's seat beside him. You stare into his blue eyes and he looks back into your own (e/c) eyes. The both of you hold a stare for a moment before the mysterious man that saved you looks away. "Yer' safe now so don't worry, alright?" He tells you and begins paddling back over to the Jackdaw to be lifted back up and onto the ship by his men.

You were still shivering from the dampness the water drenched you with, your teeth were almost chattering. "You saved me…" You murmur as he paddles to the side of the ship and waits for his men to pull you both up.

He smiles lightly at you and nods his head, "Consider yourself one lucky lass. I don't know what happened here but ye seem to be the only one left livin." He said and you lower your head at his words with mourning for the mens' lives that had been lost. You had good friends on that ship and they were all gone now, left to lay at the bottom of the ocean as skeletal remains for eternity.

"No, I'm not lucky, not at all. All those men are dead, every single one of them. No luck involved, this was a tragedy." You retorted solemnly and kept your head lowered while the Jackdaw's crew was pulling you up to the main deck. Kenway's lips purse into a small frown at your pessimistic words, though he could understand why you weren't in the greatest of moods. He'd imagined you've been out here in the middle of the ocean stranded for a very long time and probably faced with the very likeliness of dying a slow cold death around all the people you knew that were all floating lifelessly around you.

"You have my condolences this must be very traumatic for ye. You don't strike me as someone who travels much by sea."

You glower as you veer your eyes at your savior who was only saying all the wrong things, "Its because I'm a woman right? Tch, all you waterdogs are all the same." Glaring away from him, Kenway puts up his hands in defense while the boat was now at the side of the ship and ready for you both to get off. Kenway gets off first and then extends his hand out to you again to help you out. You keep frowning to yourself darkly for multiple of reasons. You glance at his hand and sigh as you ignore it and get off yourself. Just because you were a lady didn't mean you constantly needed the help of a man! He looked somewhat awkward again at your negative response to his genuine attempts to be kind towards you, especially since you just went through so much.

"I didn't mean it that way…" He muttered as you crossed your arms and began looking around at your surroundings with narrow eyes. The crew of the ship had all stopped what they were doing to gaze upon the only woman on the ship. You could hear some of them muttering that it was bad luck to have a woman aboard while others were complaining that Kenway had saved you and didn't get any of the goods left behind on the shipwreck. You wouldn't let yourself feel intimidated by these scoundrels who were giving you both dirty looks, skeptical ones, and even some eyes that were obviously taking in your body like bloody perverts who probably haven't seen a real woman for how ever long they've been sailing for. One thing just seemed to keep nagging you, what if this was a ship full of pirates!? What if you were actually just kidnapped by pirates for ransom? You gulped and turned to look at the blonde who you were starting to assume was the captain of this well-groomed frigate.

"Who are you exactly and what is this ship?" You finally ask a bit snappishly to the tall man that towered over you by a couple inches. He smiled at you softly even though you were being less than polite with him, but you just were through so much you didn't care for manners. It's not like any of these sea dogs probably had any to begin with.

"Well, lass you're on me pride and joy the Jackdaw. My name is Captain Edward Kenway and I run this here vessel." He told you as he bent down to bow down to you in a way that was playful and obviously less than serious.

Your frown lessens as you nod firmly with a blank expression, "… The Jackdaw that's the name of a bird."

"Certainly is. Might I ask what yer' name is Miss? I should at least to get to know the name of the one I rescued." Edward nodded your way and awaited for you to give him your name to him. You still were quite distrustful of the captain and his crew but you decided his good deed was compensation enough for at least your name to be rewarded to him. You stood up tall and tried to not look like a shivering mess in front of him as you spoke up without any hint of stuttering or fear.

"Let me first say I am in your debt and more than grateful you came to save me, Captain Kenway. My name is (Y/n) (L/n) and I was aboard the Kelsey until it came to its fateful end… I think yesterday… My memory is a bit cloudy. I was out at sea for so long…" You tell him and cross your arms tightly over your chest for warmth. Edward notices you are uncomfortable and shivering from being completely soaked from the ocean's chilling embrace.

"You're welcome, Miss. (L/n). I bet you want to get dried up. We can talk more later, come with me. I don't have any ladies clothing but maybe you can fashion yourself to something we do have. Might not be as pretty as you'd like but warm clothes beats sodden fancy wet ones, I'd assume." He said to you with a crooked smile as he lead you over to the Captain's Quarters. You nod to him but stay quiet as you follow him into his quarters. Eyes from the Jackdaw's crew remained on you like daggers in the back until you were out of view when the doors shut behind you. Edward strolled over to a large dresser in he fancy cabin room that had a large square table in the middle of the room that had maps covering all over it. You looked around your surroundings until Edward waved you over to the large dresser. You stepped over to his side as he took out a white cotton shirt that had frills at the sleeves, a long (color) vest, black casual pants, a buckled leather belt that was supposed to go over your chest, and typical black boots that looked like ones a pirate would wear. It was the most feminine clothing he had which it in all honestly it could work just fine on both a man and a woman. You were kinda looking forward to wearing something different, usually you were always forced into wearing puffy fancy dresses since that was considered more socially acceptable of females to wear. "Will this work?" He asked as he placed down the clothing onto the table of maps in the middle of the room.

"It will do. Anything is better than this awful soaked dress."

"Ah, that's good to hear!" He smiled wider at you and had a twinkle in those enchanting blue eyes of his. He glanced at you and then the door, "Well, I'll just let you change now."

"What you're doing going to make some perverted joke like your type typically would?" You say before you could think about how rude that sounded. He only smirked and shook his head, his cornsilk blonde hair bobbing as he did.

"You are so quick to judge, lass. I'm unlike any other as I am a sea-faired gentleman. That I can promise ye. Now get dressed, we have more things to discuss and I'd rather think you don't want to come down with something nasty for staying as wet as you are.." He says with that smirk that send shivers down your spine. This time you were sure it wasn't from the cold. He seemed to be flirting with you but in a much more acceptable and even somewhat charming way. You couldn't help but blush as you turned your head away from him and waited for him to take his leave.

"We'll see about that." You challenged as he swung the doors open and gave you one last smirk and even a wink.

"Ye will, just ya' wait." He teased and finally stepped through the exit and left you alone in his quarters for your privacy's sake. You went back to staring at the door where he left and a blush was still warm on your cheeks and ears. It was nice to feel something warm for once but not quite like this. Something about him was quite charming but you still had the warning flickering in your mind that he was bad news. Sighing heavily, you reach behind your back and tug the zipper down and begin to undress. It felt so nice to have that heavy wet dress off of you but now you were extremely cold being completely bare. Grabbing onto the fresh clean clothes Edward Kenway had left for you. You set your old soaked dress aside on a side table before changing into your new warm clothes that defiantly made you feel like a pirate.

'Well, he seems nice enough and perhaps even incredibly handsome… but I still wonder if it is all a facade. Maybe, he's just waiting for the opportune moment to use me for ransom. His crew gives me the vibe of pirates… Why did he bother to rescue me in the first place if he's not wanting something out of the deal? No one does nothing from the kindness of their heart anymore… Something seems off.' These thoughts rushed through your mind but you had no answers and rather just more strenuous pondering if your situation was safe or not. Walking over to a golden oval mirror that was in the room, you take a gander at yourself. Yup, you looked like a grade 'A' pirate, but your clothing was so much more comfortable on you… even if it was a bit loose on your body from being slightly too big. You wondered if these clothes were actually Kenway's clothes? You blush at the thought of wearing the same clothing as him and turn away to pick up a towel that Kenway also left for you to dry up. You took it and dried off your damp (h/l) (h/c) hair before taking a nearby hairbrush that was obviously Kenway's and brushed your hair out, not caring if it was his or not. Finally feeling more refreshed and a bit more lively now that you weren't teeming with dripping water. You step out of Kenway's captain quarters and stop in front of the doors as you peer out at the many crew members who were working although some stopped to turn and glare at you.

"Ti' Captain is goin' daft to let some lassie landlubber aboard the Jackdaw. Don't he know tis' is to bring misfortune on the ship? We all are goin' to be shark bait with her around." A large muscular man with many ocean related tattoos running up and down his hairy arms said in a gruff voice over at you. Two other men beside him nod in agreement and go to give you dirty looks that you gave back.

"Captain Kenway was being a humane human being by saving me from my ship's wreck. I can assure you I am not bad luck. There is no such thing as luck to begin with." You retort smartly as you clench your fists into tight whitening balls as you were becoming annoyed with the dirty scoundrels who just had to start badgering you the second you walked out of the cabin.

"There is such thing as bad luck! Why do you think the ship you were on sunk to the ocean floor? It was because you were onboard. Everyone should know never to bring a woman on a ship."

"Well, here I am. Hope your precious Jackdaw doesn't have the same fate. Also thank you so kindly for blaming me for the death of all those innocent men. You're obviously quite the charmer." You sneer but only mange to piss off the men for talking back to them. The three men come leering towards you and you begin to look nervous as they approach. It wasn't until someone grabbed onto your shoulder from behind firmly when you gasped and looked behind you to see Captain Kenway glaring the three men down.

"Leave Miss. (L/n) alone or I'll deal with ye personally, savvy?" The three flinched away but were still eyeing you with hateful glares. They nodded towards their captain in respect for him and backed off to go back to doing their work on the ship. You let out a breath of air you didn't even know was there as they leave you alone. "Sorry bout' them. They been so long gone away from women they forgot how to treat em'. Are you alright? I'm sure ye dealt with enough today." He said to you as you turned around to face him face to face. His head was tilted and looking down at you curiously. You glance away from his eyes and sigh again.

"Thank you, Kenway."

"Yer very welcome, Miss. (L/n). If you have any more trouble with my boys. I'll make them walk the plank." Kenway teased which made you smile and softly snicker back with your hand to your mouth. You knew he kept playfully flirting with you but for some reason you didn't mind it so much from him, as long as it remained innocent enough you saw no qualms against it.

"How chivalrous of you, Captain." You reply just as playfully back with a small smirk laced on your lips. He chuckled and grinned back showing his white pearly teeth, he had such a gorgeous smile. No! Stop thinking about Kenway like that! You literally just met the guy! So he might have saved you from death and be exactly the kind of guy you were attracted too. That didn't mean you needed to be lusting over him, he still was awfully shifty to you. He was probably trying to seduce you for his own gain sexually or for some other reason. You mentally sighed and wanted to shut off your thoughts from breaching your mind with so many 'what if's'. You believed you were thinking so much because you were dead tired. Speaking of which, you wondered if Kenway had a place for you to sleep. You dearly hoped it was not in the crew's quarters, if it was, you might have to smuggle a knife to stab the first man that came over to violate you in the night. You bit your lip and eyed off into the distance of the ocean.

"Kenway…" You spoke up while gaining his attention back to you. "If I am to remain on the Jackdaw then where can I go to sleep? I'm still exhausted from what I went through." You said to him questionably. He looks away thoughtfully at your inquiry and he didn't seem so sure himself. He obviously knew he was not going to dare let a lady like you anywhere near his crew members sleeping quarters. Not that all of them were as debauched as some pirates could be, but he still wasn't certain of all their intentions, especially towards a beautiful woman like yourself in the middle of the night at her most vulnerable. Kenway could only think of one thing and it made him feel strangely, he had a feeling you weren't going to be fond of it but what choice was there? You weren't going to to sleeping in the kitchen or something along those lines, that was still too close to his men, anyways.

"I bet ya are but before you get some shut eye could you tell me what happened? The ship you were on didn't appear to have sunk because of the fire. There would have been more charred debris if it was. So I'm assuming you weren't involved with any fightin'." Edward asked while trying to change the subject momentarily to get that piece of information that was stuck on his brain. You lower your gaze and frown sadly as your memory went back to the wreck that was still fresh in your mind. You were for sure going to have nightmares about it for a long time.

"I'll tell you but you better have somewhere decent I can sleep."

"I already got that settled off in my mind, lass. I'm just honestly curious. How did you survive?" He asked as he looked down at you with full on attentiveness. He did seem very intrigued on how you lived when all the other men were now floating away or sinking down to the depths of the ocean floor lifelessly. You sigh and close your bright (e/c) eyes as you speak to Kenway with a pained voice. You lean back on the side railings of the Jackdaw and tell your story the best way you could remember it.

"I left from my hometown to visit one of my closest dear friends who is on the verge of dying of lockjaw. I boarded the Kelsey that was owned by a friend of my Father who agreed to take me to Nassau. At first everything was wonderful, it was my first real time ever being on a real ship. It was so exciting at first and I knew why people like you love the open seas so much. There just is something naturally serene about sailing. But we were completely unaware after a couple of days of a raging storm that was coming from the East. Captain Enrique Read who ran the the Kelsey tried everything to steer away from the storm but it came in too quickly…. His men tried everything to keep the ship sailing but the hurricane like winds and tsunami like waves were too much for everyone to bear. I remember holding onto the mast with all my life as the rain down poured like small little needles pricking your skin. The waves took innocent men overboard and soon it eventually even took me with it when I tried to save a man. I was almost unconscious in the water but was still somehow aware but disoriented. I saw a lightning strike the ship and immediately it caused a fire that reached a barrel of gunpowder that exploded and made everything so much worse. Men were burnt alive, thrown off the ship, drowning… It wasn't long until the entire Kelsey sunk and all that was left was the ship's remains of the dead men that suffered at the clutches of the storm and fire…" You trailed off and willed yourself not to cry at the very thought. Edward's eyebrows were furrowed as he listened to your tragic tale that you endured. He's gone through a lot of things in his profession as a pirate on board a ship but he never had to face the event of his own ship sinking, which he was very fortunate of. It was just your first time on a ship and you poor thing had to confront such a catastrophe and live through it being the only survivor. Edward could imagine the survivor guilt you probably felt for being the only one to make it out alive.

"I'm really sorry, lass."

"Don't be… It was inevitable." You say coldly and turn away from him with your arms crossed as you look out at the horizon where the afternoon sun was rising above and shining it's light cast out on the reflections of the ocean blue. He stared at your back and stayed silent for a moment before speaking up again, still curious to how you managed to live.

"True that. Its just rather unfortunate, especially it being yer' first experience on a ship. I have to ask though. How did you handle through it all?"

"I fell unconscious. I shouldn't have lived but I did. I found a plank of the ship floating by in the water and there I was hanging on to it as my last life line. I thought I would die but then you came along." You paused and turned back to look at him with a scrutinizing look that studied him from head to toe. He didn't seem bothered by it as he was doing the same to you in silence.

"You weren't meant to die, Miss. (L/n). Your survival shows that you are still meant to be around for a reason. You shouldn't dwell on what you couldn't stop, like you said, it was inevitable. Nothing could have changed what transpired."

"It's my fault entirely actually. If I didn't beg Captain Read to take me aboard the Kelsey to go to Nassau. Everyone would still be alive and well." You breathed out a snort and shook your head glumly, "Perhaps, I am truly bad luck."

"I wouldn't think so. Don't go feeling sorry for yourself, (L/n). It happened now it's time to keep looking forward to the horizon. Here, I'll do ye a favor, because I am such a gentleman." He tried teasing again to lighten the mood but you didn't laugh this time. You were too upset by bringing up the devastation of Kelsey. He saw that he wasn't going to get one single giggle out of you so he went back to being serious. "I had plans to sail somewhere else but if Nassau was where you were headin'. I'll take the liberty of taking a quick course over there so you can see your dying friend. Does that sound good to you? I don't usually do favors like this but I think ye need a most needed pick me up. Grog can also help the blue feelings, if you're in the mood."

"No, I don't want to drink my sorrows away. That's just avoiding the problem at hand." You scoff and then look back up into his eyes sadly after a brief moment, "But if you can take me to Nassau. I wouldn't know how to thank you properly. You already have done so much for me. So thank you, Captain Kenway" You say with a softer-spoken voice that didn't sound as bitter as you had been with him.

He simply smiles and shakes his head like it was no big deal, "Don't think of it… Oh, and one more thing. You can call me Edward. The formalities aren't necessary. I think we're past that. Mind if I call ye by your first name? I think you have a uh… 'fine' name- I mean, its beautiful. Yeah, that's right. (Y/n) is a beautiful name for a lovely lass like you." He says with a twinkle coming back into his eyes that shone brightly in the light of the sun. You felt that blush crawling back onto your cheeks and ears and you nod a bit shyly at his shameless flirting that was really getting to you this time.

"Uhm, certainly you can… Edward." You say his name off your tongue and find that you liked saying his first name more than his surname. Edward just really suited him, not to mention it was a handsome name but you weren't as courageous as him to admit it.

"Aye, good to hear but I'm certain you're more or less ready to get some rest. I know you probably won't fawn over the idea but I promise you'll be safe there and away from my men. You can stay in my quarters. I have another hammock I can fit in for ye. What do you think?" He asked you hoping that the accommodations would be suitable enough for the time being. You making a sulky look, you were defiantly not used to sleeping in hammocks but rather sleeping in comfy warm beds at home on land. But the more troubling part of this idea was the fact you would be sleeping in the same room as Edward. He seemed polite and genuine enough for a captain of filthy uncouth scoundrels who would probably assault you at any given moment if Edward wasn't watching you like a hawk. You stare into his azure colored eyes and they held a strong reassurance that he wasn't going to harm you. He would have done something by now if he wanted you gutted like a fish. You still weren't at all sure of his hidden agenda though, you hoped he wasn't just trying to just use you to bed him for some one night stand and then plop you back in a cock-boat and drift your sorry little arse off back into the unforgiving sea. The possibility of him being a pirate was also still there and you were actually tempted to find out for yourself just what Captain Kenway was actually all about. He might not look the stereotypical villainous pirate like say Black Beard but that just made him all the more dangerous. You had to to remain on guard.

You finally nod your head as your body's need for some sound sleep was calling your name. "I guess that'll do but don't you try anything!" You warned him with a suspicious look.

"Ey', gentleman remember?" He replied with a smug smirk.

You roll your eyes and then look over towards his cabin's doors. "Alright fine. I'll trust you'll behave… well I'm going to get some sleep now. Goodnight, Edward."

" G'night, (Y/n). You can use my hammock for the time being. I'll set up the other one later tonight. You have a good rest now. Try not to think about what ye've been through. You'll sleep better that way, promise."

You nod a bit and stifle a yawn, "I'll try not too." Turning away from Kenway, you make your ways back to his quarters. Edward watches your body's movement as you stroll on over to his cabin and take entrance before closing the doors behind you. Edward let out a breathy sigh that he was holding in as he ran his hand through his cornsilk hair.

"Sleep well, lass." Edward said quietly before looking up towards his helm where Adéwalé was standing with his arms crossed and waiting for him to come back to the helm. "Well, back to sailing." Edward said to himself and went walking up to take the helm. "Weigh anchor and hoist the mizzen! Let's get moving! We're making way for Nassau!" Edward shouted loudly out to his crew who all hollered back and began to run around like a bunch of stirred ants as they lifted the anchor out of the ocean and let out the black colored sails out for the winds to pick up the speed needed to start moving forward. The Jackdaw in moment's time lurched forward and Edward started turning the helm's wheel to steer towards the center of the Bahamas where Nassau was situated on Providence Island. It wasn't that far away from where he was as the Jackdaw was nearby Cat Island.

The crisp wind blew through Edward's blonde hair as he steered the helm to the North West where (Y/n) could be dropped off to see her dying friend for most likely the last time. They say lockjaw can kill you in eight days so you were running short on time. Fortunately, it wouldn't take that long to reach Nassau. The Jackdaw was a sturdy and fast ship that would surely reach Nassau in about a day's time. Edward kept thinking about you as he steered the helm. Your pretty face lingered in his mind with your shining (h/l) (h/c) hair and rich intelligent (e/c) eyes that burnt right through him. He imagined he wouldn't mind having a woman around. It would be a nice change in pace around the Jackdaw, whether his crew thought so or not. Captain Kenway didn't feel at all regretful for saving your life. He knew riches would come his way for his good deed. What those riches might actually be was unclear to him, almost as mysterious as a secret treasure map to an X marked location. He determined he would figure you out and claim whatever fortune or riches you might bring him. He just needed to be patient and find out himself what you had to offer...

Important: This is not the end. Stay tuned for the second part of this 2-shot!
Bullet; Blue Important! This is a two-shot so that means there is another part that I'm still writing! I had to split them up because it was getting too long for a single one-shot. I like to have order to my stories xD

Bullet; Black This fan-fiction is also dedicated to :iconarooncat:. Thanks for inspiring me and giving me ideas to write this! <3

Bullet; Blue I hope I made Edward in character. You have to understand I haven't played AC black flag in like forever! So this was all just playing by ear and doing some research on him on wiki's! Also please be easy on me as this is my first AC fan fiction and I'm kinda nervous about it. O_o

Bullet; Black Make sure to read, comment, and favorite guys! It really inspires me to write more. I love hearing from you!
Also there will be more romance in the second part! I promise!!! This part was more for setting up the plot line of the story! I didn't want to shove unbelievable romance down your throats when I didn't feel like it was necessary or the right time.
